The Saying of Vehi No'am 7 Times
- "Ve'hi no'am Adonoy Eloheinu aleynu, U'Ma'asei yadeynu konena aleynu, U'Ma'asei yadeynu koneneihu." (May the pleasantness of Hashem our G-d be upon us, establish for us the work of our hands, may He establish the work of our hands.) (Psalms 90:16)
- The source from the Ramban and the Arizal confirmed it to be a genuine custom.
- It is considered a Segulah (auspicious practice) for Shemira. (Ben Ish Chai)
- The miracle of Chanukah occurred in great part to do an Isarussa d'L'tata (a worldly initiation on the part of man). In Vehi Noa'am we say "ma'asei yadenu", the work of hands which refers to the Isarussa d'L'tata. Nevertheless, the verse ends but end with "U'Ma'asei yadeynu koneneihu", may Hashem establish the work of our hands. This alludes to the fact that true success comes only from Hashem. (Kedushas Levi)
